This Privacy Policy explains how Mentari (“Mentari”, “we”, “us” or “our”), operating the brand Mentari and the website www.mentari.in, collects, uses, stores, shares and protects personal data when you use our website, book sessions, or enrol in our courses (collectively, the “Services”). We are the Data Fiduciary in respect of the personal data we process under this Policy.
By using our Services, or by a parent or guardian providing consent on behalf of a student, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. A note about students under 18
Mentari teaches students in Grades 9 to 12. Many of our students are under 18 years of age and are therefore treated as “children” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “DPDP Act”).
Before we knowingly process the personal data of any student under 18, we obtain verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian. A student under 18 should use our Services only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly track, monitor, profile, or carry out behavioural targeting or targeted advertising directed at children.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you (or a parent/guardian) provide
- Identity and contact details: student and parent/guardian name, email address, phone number, city, and school or board (e.g., CBSE, ICSE, IB, State Board).
- Academic and programme details: grade, subjects of interest, learning goals, and information you share during enquiry, counselling, or sessions.
- Enrolment and scheduling details: courses booked, session timings, attendance, and communications with us.
- Payment information: see Section 4. We do not store full card or bank details ourselves.
- Any other information you choose to share with us, including feedback, testimonials, or work submitted during sessions.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data such as device type, browser, IP address, and pages visited on our website, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Section 8).
- Session data where 1:1 or group sessions are conducted or recorded on third-party platforms (e.g., video conferencing tools).
3. How we use your information
We use personal data only for clear, lawful purposes, including to:
- Respond to enquiries, schedule and conduct intro sessions, workshops, and paid sessions.
- Deliver, personalise, and improve our courses and teaching.
- Process payments, issue invoices and receipts, and manage refunds.
- Communicate with students and parents/guardians about schedules, materials, and updates.
- Maintain attendance and progress records, and share feedback with parents/guardians.
- Comply with legal, accounting, and tax obligations, and enforce our Terms of Service.
Where you have given consent, we may also send occasional updates about new courses or workshops. You can withdraw this consent at any time (see Section 6).
4. Payments
Online payments are processed through one or more third-party payment gateways (such as Razorpay). When you pay, your card, UPI, net-banking, or other payment details are collected and processed directly by the payment gateway under its own privacy policy and security standards. We do not store your full payment instrument details on our systems. We receive only limited information such as transaction status, a reference ID, and the amount paid, which we retain for accounting and audit purposes.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as needed to run our Services, namely with:
- Service providers acting on our behalf, such as payment gateways, email and scheduling tools, video-conferencing platforms, and cloud storage — bound to use the data only for the services they provide to us.
- Instructors or counsellors engaged by Mentari, strictly to teach or support the relevant student.
- Authorities, regulators, or advisors where required by law, or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
- A successor entity in the event of a merger, reorganisation, or transfer of the business, subject to this Policy.
We do not transfer personal data outside India except to service providers whose tools may store data abroad; in such cases we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate protection, consistent with applicable law.
6. Your rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, including the DPDP Act, you (or a parent/guardian on behalf of a student) may:
- Access the personal data we hold and request a summary of how it is processed.
- Request correction, completion, or updating of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request erasure of personal data that is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected.
- Withdraw consent at any time (this will not affect processing already carried out, and may limit our ability to provide the Services).
- Nominate another individual to exercise these rights in case of death or incapacity.
- Raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer (see Section 11).
To exercise any of these rights, write to us at support@mentari.in. We may need to verify your identity (and, for a student, the parent/guardian relationship) before acting on a request.
7. Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the Services, maintain academic and financial records, and meet legal, tax, and audit requirements. When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it. Financial records are typically retained for the period required under applicable tax and company law.
8. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep it working, remember preferences, and understand how visitors use the site. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work properly without them. We do not use cookies to profile or behaviourally target students.
9. How we protect your information
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — such as access controls, restricted sharing, and reputable service providers — to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information and will notify affected persons and the Data Protection Board of India of any personal data breach as required by law.
10. Children’s data — additional terms
- We process a student’s personal data only after obtaining verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian.
- We collect only the data reasonably needed to provide teaching and support to that student.
- We do not undertake tracking, behavioural monitoring, profiling, or targeted advertising directed at children.
- A parent or guardian may review, correct, or request deletion of their child’s data, and may withdraw consent, by writing to support@mentari.in.
11. Grievance Officer and contact
If you have questions, requests, or complaints about this Policy or your personal data, please contact:
Email: support@mentari.in
We aim to acknowledge grievances promptly and respond within the timelines required under applicable law.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at www.mentari.in with the “Last updated” date shown above. Material changes will be communicated to registered users and, where required, fresh consent will be obtained.
13. Governing law
This Policy is governed by the laws of India. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at New Delhi, India.
